Sarzedas Returns: J.C. Newman Revives “The Aromatic Cigar” With Nicaraguan Flair

Cigar history buffs, rejoice — one of J.C. Newman’s oldest names is making a bold return. Originally introduced in 1900, Sarzedas was known back then as “The Aromatic Cigar,” and over a century later, it’s getting a flavorful revival at the 2025 Premium Cigar Association (PCA) Trade Show in New Orleans.

A Classic Reborn

Drew Newman, fourth-generation cigar maker and the heartbeat behind J.C. Newman’s innovation, has long had a soft spot for Sarzedas. “I have loved the Sarzedas name and the brand’s history… but had to wait until we could create a blend that lives up to the brand’s legacy,” he said. Mission accomplished.

This isn’t just a heritage play — the new Sarzedas is the most flavorful cigar J.C. Newman has ever made, according to Drew himself.

The Blend: Smooth, Aromatic, Flavor-Packed

Blended by veteran cigar craftsman Rich Dolak — a J.C. Newman staple for nearly three decades — the Sarzedas is all about balance and complexity. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Wrapper: Ecuadorian Shade – silky smooth and golden, offering a creamy, mellow start.
  • Binder & Filler: A choice mix of Dominican and Nicaraguan tobaccos – giving it a rich, layered core with notes of toasted nuts, vanilla, and subtle baking spice.
  • Flavor Profile: Think creamy cedar, delicate florals, and a whisper of sweet almond on the finish. The retrohale brings a warm, peppery pop without overwhelming the palate.

This one is built for cigar lovers who like smooth blends with enough body to keep things interesting.

Vitolas and Pricing

Sarzedas will come in four classic sizes:

  • Toro: 6” x 50
  • Robusto: 4.75” x 52
  • Churchill: 7” x 48
  • Corona: 5.5” x 43

Pricing is expected to land comfortably in the $8–$10 range — great news for anyone looking to make this a daily go-to without breaking the bank.

A Booth With History

If you’re hitting up the PCA Trade Show, swing by the J.C. Newman booth to check out some cigar nostalgia: a 100-year-old Sarzedas ashtray, vintage boxes, and newspaper ads from the early 1900s will be on full display — a classy nod to the brand’s deep roots.

And get this: Sarzedas is just the third of five new cigars J.C. Newman is launching at PCA this year. It’s a big weekend for the family-owned brand.
