J.C. Newman Ships America250 Cigars to 250 Retailers Nationwide

TAMPA, Fla. — J.C. Newman Cigar Co. has begun shipping its official America250 cigars commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the United States.

A total of 250 premium cigar retailers will each receive a limited set of 250 cigars, all handmade at El Reloj — America’s last large traditional cigar factory. The cigars and packaging bear the official America250 seal.

“J.C. Newman is proud to roll official cigars of the 250th Anniversary of the United States,” said fourth-generation cigar maker Drew Newman. “Cigars have been an important part of our country since its founding.”

Handmade at El Reloj in Tampa

The cigars are produced at El Reloj in Tampa, Florida — the last large-scale cigar factory still rolling cigars in the United States.

Founded in 1895, J.C. Newman traces its roots back to a time when more than 40,000 cigar factories operated across the country. Today, El Reloj stands as the remaining large-format facility preserving traditional American cigar manufacturing.

What’s Included in the America250 Release

The commemorative release features:

  • The American – The first 100% all-American cigar, crafted entirely from heirloom American tobaccos and packaged exclusively with American-made materials.
  • Angel Cuesta – A historic brand first rolled for Spain’s King Alfonso XIII over a century ago, offered in Ecuador Havana or Nicaraguan Shade wrapper options.
  • Angel Cuesta Shade Double Robusto – Debuting for the first time in this set.
  • El Reloj Collection Sampler

Historical Context

Tobacco cultivation in America dates back to 1612 in the Virginia Colony and was a foundational economic driver in the early Americas. Many Founding Fathers, including George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, were tobacco farmers.

In 2016, Congress established the United States Semiquincentennial Commission to coordinate the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026. The bipartisan organization America250 leads the commemoration and licenses official branding for qualifying American-made products.

Why It Matters

This release reinforces several key industry themes:

  • Growth of premium American-made cigar production
  • Limited, allocation-driven distribution strategy
  • Patriotic licensing and commemorative positioning
  • Preservation of domestic cigar manufacturing

With only 250 retail partners receiving the product, availability is inherently restricted.

For collectors and enthusiasts focused on U.S.-made cigars, the America250 set represents a rare intersection of history, licensing, and traditional craftsmanship.
