Espinosa Cigars Adds Industry Veteran Laura Barlau as VP of Key Accounts and Special Projects
Espinosa Cigars is expanding its leadership team with the addition of longtime cigar industry veteran Laura Barlau, who has joined the company as Vice President of Key Accounts and Special Projects.

Announced October 5, Barlau’s hiring brings nearly two decades of cigar-industry experience to the Hialeah Gardens-based company. She has worked in the business since 2007, building a career around cigar purchasing, vendor relations, retail partnerships, and product knowledge.
In her new position, Barlau will work closely with Espinosa’s online retail and distributor partners while also taking responsibility for private-label projects and contract manufacturing.
The role puts her at the intersection of several areas that could become increasingly important to Espinosa as the company continues to expand its footprint.
“We’re very happy to have Laura join an already solid team,” said Erik Espinosa, President of Espinosa Cigars. “She brings a wealth of industry knowledge and experience, along with a fresh energy that will serve our partners and our company well.”
Barlau’s experience on the purchasing and retail sides of the cigar business gives Espinosa an executive who already understands many of the relationships she will now be responsible for developing from the manufacturer side.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Espinosa team,” Barlau said. “Erik’s vision and perseverance have positioned the company for great things, and I’m honored that the crew is putting their trust in me to be a part of this exciting future.”
More Than a Personnel Move
For Espinosa, the appointment appears to be about more than adding another executive to the organizational chart.
Barlau’s responsibilities specifically include online retailers, distributors, private-label cigars, and contract manufacturing—areas that can broaden a cigar company’s reach beyond its core branded portfolio.
That makes the hire notable as Espinosa continues building its position among independent premium cigar manufacturers. Strengthening relationships with major accounts while expanding private-label and manufacturing opportunities could give the company additional avenues for growth without changing the identity of the Espinosa-branded portfolio.
Barlau joins an Espinosa organization that has steadily expanded alongside the brand, and her addition provides the company with another experienced industry voice as it moves into its next phase.
For retailers and consumers, the impact may eventually show up in expanded distribution, new partnerships, or projects carrying names other than Espinosa’s own.
For now, the immediate takeaway is clear: Espinosa Cigars is adding experience in an area where relationships matter, and it has given Barlau a broad mandate to put those relationships to work.
