Beer Can or Travel Humidor? Maya Selva’s Award-Winning Packaging Has Everyone Looking Twice

At first glance, you’d swear it was a craft beer.

Until you realize the can isn’t holding a beverage—it’s protecting five premium cigars.

That’s exactly the reaction Maya Selva Cigars was hoping for with its Villa Zamorano Reserva Cigar-Can, a travel-friendly package that just earned one of the travel retail industry’s highest honors. The company recently received the 2026 TREX (Travel Retail Exclusive) Award, recognizing the innovative design that rethinks how premium cigars can be packaged, protected, and enjoyed while traveling.

Don’t Crack It Open…

Well…you do crack it open.

Just not for the reason your buddies might think.

The Villa Zamorano Reserva Cigar-Can is a fully reusable aluminum container designed to look strikingly similar to a beverage can. Inside, however, are five handmade premium cigars instead of a cold drink.

Better yet, the can isn’t simply clever packaging.

It functions as a sealed travel humidor that helps maintain humidity during transport, and once you’ve enjoyed the cigars, the lid transforms into a portable ashtray. That’s the kind of practical thinking that caught the attention of the TREX judging panel, who praised the design for its innovation, functionality, and reduction of single-use packaging waste.

What’s Inside the “Can”?

The sampler introduces smokers to the Villa Zamorano Reserva line with five different vitolas:

• Expreso

• Robusto

• El Gordo

• No. 15

• Soberano

It’s essentially a flight of Villa Zamorano cigars packaged in a way that’s built for airports, vacations, golf trips, and weekends away.

A Clever Idea That Actually Solves a Problem

Let’s be honest—most cigar packaging gets thrown away.

This doesn’t.

The Cigar-Can protects your cigars, keeps them fresh while traveling, converts into an ashtray, and still looks cool sitting on your desk after the trip is over.

That’s probably why it stood out among travel retail products from around the world.

As Maya Selva explained, the goal was to create something portable, protective, and memorable without sacrificing sustainability or the premium cigar experience.

Why It Matters

Every year we see brands release another limited edition cigar.

Far fewer rethink how we actually carry and enjoy them.

The Villa Zamorano Reserva Cigar-Can isn’t trying to reinvent the cigar—it’s reinventing everything around it.

And judging by its 2026 TREX Award, the industry thinks Maya Selva is onto something.
