Premium cigar manufactures capitalize on Chinese New Year to introduce limited edition cigars to commemorate the holiday.

The Chinese Lunar New Year is a significant event in the Chinese culture. The New Year is traditionally celebrated for a week and the Chinese give gifts packaged in red and gold to each other. Each New Year is represented by one of 12 zodiac symbols based on an animal and many cigar makers have begun celebrating the year’s theme by releasing commemorative, limited-edition cigars. By tapping into the cultural significance of the Chinese New Year, cigar makers have created a unique and memorable experience for cigar enthusiasts around the world.

Cigar manufactures have been releasing these limited editions celebrating the Chinese New Year since 2011, when the marketing geniuses at Davidoff saw a huge opportunity to tap the Chinese market by incorporating the holiday into their annual lineup. The “Year of…” line was a success and now many other companies have started their own annual ‘Year of the….’ cigars in honor of the holiday.
