The NFL Alum filled event drew crowds from all over South Florida to sample chili from various cigar industry, employee and enthusiasts chefs, all benefiting the Jason Taylor Foundation.
Smoke on the Water, located in Weston, FL hosted the third annual Chili Cookoff on Saturday, February3, 2024. Proceeds went to benefit the formal Miami Dolphins star, Jason Taylor’s Foundation. The foundation was founded in 2004 and has collected more than $6,000,000 in its mission is to help South Florida’s children in need by focusing on improved health care, education and quality of life.
The event officially started at 2:00 PM and saw hundreds of visitors walk through and sample the various chilis. Attendees either purchased a cigar sampler or participated in a 50/50 raffle. The event was broken down into two separate categories, People Choice and Judges Choice.
To Judge the event, #99 called on some former NFL friends, Shawn Wooden and Channing Crowder as well as local food journalist Michael Mayo. Attendees got to voice their opinion on who brought their A game chili, and those tallies went towards the People’s Choice.
The Cigar Board, represented by Chef Farrell Antecol (IG:@whats_a_chef), had a table next to the Gurkha crew. We gave away cigar swag to visitors and raised awareness for Cigar Rights of America (IG: @cigarrightsofamerica). Both Farrell and I had a great time at the event. despite not placing in this year’s competition.
Congratulations to both of the 2024 Chili Cookoff winners. The real winners are the kids who will benefit from all the donations, and both Chef Farrell and I are thrilled that we had the opportunity to participate in the event.
