Why Track Every Cigar for a Year?

At the end of 2024, I had a realization: memory lies… data doesn’t.

Instead of relying on “I think I smoke a lot of Habano” or “I feel like I’m on a Toro kick,” I decided to attempt to track every single cigar smoked for an entire year. Dates. Brands. Vitolas. Wrapper origins. Anything that could help turn gut feelings into actual insight.

The goal wasn’t perfection or spreadsheets for the sake of spreadsheets — it was curiosity.
What patterns would show up over time?
Did certain wrappers dominate without realizing it?
Were vendor events quietly steering brand loyalty?
Did size preferences change depending on season or availability?

Some cigars were logged with full blend details. Others weren’t — and that’s intentional. If the information couldn’t be verified, it was left blank. Accuracy always beat assumptions.

What follows below is the result of that experiment: a living record of a year spent smoking with intention, and the trends that emerged when enthusiasm met tracking. The table isn’t just a list — it’s a story told through wrappers, regions, Vitolas, and repeat brands.

And the patterns?
They were louder than expected.

A Look Back At What I Smoked In 2025

This year wasn’t just about smoking cigars — it was about living the leaf. From casual weekday toros to full?blown vendor event binges, 2025 turned into a full?tilt journey through different brands, blends, and Vitolas. In this post, I break it all down in a way fellow cigar geeks can appreciate: what I smoked, how often, why patterns matter, and what it all says about the smoker behind the flame.

The Big Picture: How 2025 Smoked

My 2025 was dominated by classic, dependable formats and brand loyalty fueled by access to vendors and events. The data shows that I…

• Leans heavily toward medium?to?full flavored profiles
• Favors Toro and Robusto Vitolas for consistency and burn time
• Responded strongly to vendor events and brand exposure
• Explores broadly but circles back to favorites fast

This wasn’t random smoking. This was intentional enthusiasm.

Most Smoked Brands (Top Tier Rotation)

These brands didn’t just show up in my humidor — they moved in:

• Aladino – The runaway leader. Strong Honduran DNA, classic profiles, and clearly a go?to during events. JRE was a tremendous partner of ours in 2025 starting with the Chili Cookoff and ending with a Hand Rolled premiere!
• Micallef – Consistency meets creativity. There is no arguing that putting value as a top priority has paid off for the Micallef team. I smoked these often and across multiple lines. Great variety, quality, and price.
• La Gloria Cubana – A nostalgic favorite that still delivers.
• Oliva – Reliable, bold, and always within reach.
• HVC – Boutique vibes with repeat appeal. Reinier is another great friend of the group and his blends resonate with my palate!

? Trend callout: When a brand hit the rotation, it often showed up multiple times within the same week. That’s not coincidence — that’s vendor influence.

Vitola Breakdown: Size Matters (But Balance Wins)

The Vitola stats tell a clear story:

• Toro – The undisputed champion. Long enough to settle in, short enough to repeat.
• Robusto – The workhorse. Perfect for weekday smokes and quick sessions.
• Torpedo / Perfecto – Reserved for moments that mattered.
• Churchill & Corona – Occasional mood smokes, not daily drivers.

? Fanboy insight: I placed value into burn consistency and flavor development over novelty sizes.

Wrapper Preferences: Flavor Over Flash

While wrapper data wasn’t always available, the trends still shine through:

• Habano wrappers appear most frequently where specified
• Connecticut Shade shows up sparingly — usually in sweeter or milder lines
• Broad preference toward darker, richer wrappers

Missing wrapper, binder, or filler data was left intentionally blank when unavailable or I just didn’t take the time to research. — accuracy beats guessing every time.

Vendor Events = Smoking Spikes (And It Shows)

Here’s where things get fun.

Living in South Florida and close to a great cigar lounge, I have access to brand events and specials. If a brand was having an event and I was able to participate, I did and it shows in my smoking patterns. Multiple brands showed signs of tight smoking clusters — three or more cigars from the same brand within 7–10 days. That’s classic vendor?event behavior:

• Brand spotlight ? sampler pickup
• Immediate repeat smokes
• Line exploration while impressions are fresh

Notable examples include:

• Aladino – Multiple multi?day bursts across the year
• Crowned Heads – End?of?year cluster that was a sampler box.

? Conclusion: Vendor events absolutely work — and this data proves it.

What This Says About Me

This isn’t a hype chaser or a one?and?done sampler. I am someone who:

• Smokes with intent
• Builds short?term brand loyalty through experience
• Prefers familiar formats with room for nuance
• Trusts repetition to validate quality

In short: a true cigar fanboy, not just a collector of bands.

Final Puff: Looking Ahead

If 2025 proved anything, it’s this:

Put a good cigar in someone’s hand at the right moment, and they’ll come back for more. I recommend everyone try to keep track of what you are enjoying over a period of time to see what trends pop up.

Expect 2026 to go deeper — more vertical tastings, more line comparisons, and even sharper preferences as experience compounds.
